Discover Samoa’s Turtles in their Natural Habitat
Enhance your Savai’i Escape by adding an unforgettable Turtle Kayak Experience at the beginning of your trip. Arrive in Samoa on a Sunday, and on Monday, embark on a fully guided kayak adventure to witness giant turtles in their natural open-sea environment.
The tour begins at Lotofaga, our base for the day. After a quick safety briefing and kayak practice in the calm waters of a pond, we paddle through a small, mangrove-lined stream and head toward the lagoon. As we explore the waters, you’ll have the chance to see sea turtles, one of Samoa’s most magnificent creatures, as they peacefully graze on the seagrass.
After the kayaking adventure, we return to the village for a refreshing dip in the spring-fed pool before enjoying a relaxing lunch on the balcony of a spacious open fale, offering a stunning view of daily village life.
No previous kayaking or snorkelling experience is required—just a basic level of water confidence and a love for nature.

Your pre-cycle Add-On Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival day
Let us know your flight details and the local Outdoor Samoa | Cycle Journeys Team will transfer you to your accommodation.
Day 2: Turtle Kayak Day Trip
8:00am shuttle transfer from Cycle Journeys Mulifanua Base (or resort enroute) to the kayak base in Lotofaga.
Our knowledgeable guides will give you an outline of the day and run through a safety briefing.
Kayak down a mangrove lined stream. Along the way you will have time to study the mangrove root system and look out for the varieties of orchids in this diverse environment.
Paddle out to the lagoon where we normally find a large bale (group) of turtles feeding on the sea grass. There is then time to snorkel and have a snack.
Paddle the lagoon before paddling back up the stream.
Once back at the kayak base you will have time to swim in the fresh water, spring fed pool, before enjoying a late lunch on the balcony of the large open fale (looking over village life).
Shuttle back to Outdoor Samoa | Cycle Journeys depot in Mulifanua.
Day 3: Continue with your Savai’i Itinerary
Today your Savai’i itinerary will take over, beginning with your bike and trail briefing at our Mulifanua depot, and your cultural village tour.
